ABSTRACT

This paper is an attempt to explore the challenges and prospects for political stability in war-ravaged Afghanistan. The absence of political stability has an impact on the country’s economy, society, security and external relations. Long-term political instability in Afghanistan may exacerbate poverty, malnutrition, extremism, and whatnot. The objective of this study is to explore the answer to the question of whether Taliban-led Afghanistan would be a stable state. This paper argues that without addressing existing and long-term challenges, Afghanistan might again fall into a breeding ground for extremism and humanitarian crisis. The paper has emphasised both internal and external factors to examine how Afghanistan could be a stable state. It recommended the establishment of a consensus-oriented, humanistic, and balanced government to ensure stability in the country. This study makes a strong case that Afghanistan’s stability is important for its people and people outside of Afghanistan, especially in South Asian countries.
