BIISS Theme 2023

Theme 1: Foreign Policy and Global Outreach of Bangladesh.

Adhering to the priorities of Bangladesh’s foreign policy, BIISS aims to undertake research to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation with existing partners and at the same time, seek to forge partnerships and cooperation in underexplored fields and regions.  

The sub-themes under this are:

  • Bangladesh’s Foreign Policy: Future Outlook
  • Regional Cooperation and Bangladesh
  • Multilateralism and Bangladesh
  • Outreach of Bangladesh in Emerging Regions


Theme 2: Security and Strategic Affairs

One of the core areas of BIISS is to study national affairs and state policy related to security, defense, international peace and strategy. Under this broad theme, BIISS aims to conduct research to study the evolving national, regional and global security landscape and chalk out policy guidelines to assist relevant stakeholders in Bangladesh address new challenges in this field.

  • Rohingya Issues
  • Terrorism and Counter Terrorism
  • Cyber Security
  • Peacebuilding


Theme 3: Diplomacy and Negotiations

Adverse effects of climate change, resource scarcity and environmental degradation are some of the major obstacles in Bangladesh’s development journey. The transnational nature of these issues makes it difficult for any country to address these challenges without regional and multilateral cooperation. Thus, it is important to assist in strengthening the negotiation capacity and engagement in non-traditional and human security threats governance mechanisms. In this context, BIISS aims to undertake studies in selected areas to support Bangladesh’s diplomatic community. Moreover, as Bangladesh aspires to become a developed country by 2041, negotiating favourable trade and investment arrangements is also an integral part. This broad theme would cover both the challenges and opportunities emanating from this sector.
