Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organised a Dialogue in collaboration with the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology Open Laboratory for Emergence Strategies (ROLES), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) on Bangladesh in Transition: New Directions for FOIP and BIG-B on Wednesday, 3 November 2024 at BIISS Auditorium. The Guest of Honour for the event was Ambassador M Riaz Hamidullah, Additional Foreign Secretary (Multilateral and Regional) of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker, Chairman, BIISS, chaired the session and Major General Iftekhar Anis, BSP, awc, afwc, psc, PEng, Director General of BIISS delivered the welcome address.
The Dialogue featured three distinguished presenters. Two of the speakers were eminent scholars from Japan: Professor Hideaki Shinoda, Visiting Senior Research Fellow at ROLES, University of Tokyo, and Professor at the Graduate School of Global Studies, TUFS; and Professor Tomonori Yoshizaki from the Institute of Global Studies, TUFS. The third presenter was Dr Mahfuz Kabir, Research Director at BIISS. Following the presentations, the open discussion session allowed further engagement and dialogue.
High officials from the Embassy of Japan, representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), high officials and representatives from different government and private organisations, academia and researchers, and faculties from various universities participated in the Dialogue. They enriched the discussion by presenting valuable questions, comments, suggestions, and observations during the session.
