ABSTRACT
In recent decades, frequency and scope of terrorism have been intensified and appeared as a major threat to global security, peace, and development. Bangladesh, a developing country of South Asia, has also experienced terrorist incidents of different types in the past couple of decades. The government has taken various measures to dismantle terrorist groups from its territory. Although the country has not experienced any major terrorist attack since the Holey Artisan incident of 2016, still it is not entirely immune from such threats. Hence, the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (UNGCTS) can play a complementary role in national counter-terrorism endeavours of Bangladesh. Notably, the UNGCTS is one of the key instruments of global counter-terrorism endeavours of the UN, which aims to eradicate root causes of terrorism. This article tries to look into whether the strategy can be an effective one in Bangladesh’s context.
