ABSTRACT

The paper offers insights into the recently unveiled EU connectivity endeavour— the Global Gateway initiative. By evaluating its potentials and downsides, the paper attempts to accomplish the objective of comprehending Bangladesh’s point of view about the Global Gateway. While evaluating this connectivity initiative, the paper dwells on the argument that the Global Gateway initiative is the latest edition to the connectivity race in the era of competing connectivity strategies that support the Western logic of connectivity. Acquiring data from both primary and secondary sources, the paper explores prospects for Bangladesh in the five priority areas of the Global Gateway and detects some drawbacks of this initiative which can be considered as challenges for Bangladesh as well if the country engages with this initiative. Hence, the paper suggests some recommendations which can be followed to understand this new initiative better as well as avoid any potential challenges while partnering with this initiative in the coming days.
