ABSTRACT
The Global Security Initiative (GSI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping aims to end conflicts, enhance global security governance, and advance sustainable peace and development. This article examines the potential strategic benefits and challenges Bangladesh may have from the GSI in the face of geopolitical conundrums. It aims to provide a comprehensive outlook about the implications of GSI on Bangladesh’s strategic outlook. Bangladesh remains a long-term friendly country with China, with deep bilateral economic, political, and strategic relationships. Bangladesh joined the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in 2016 and has flourished diplomatic and economic ties with China. However, through the GSI, Bangladesh can have access to resources and innovative solutions, especially to address non-traditional security concerns such as food security, cyber security, and environmental issues due to climate change. Hence, as GSI is a new initiative, therefore, Bangladesh needs to have a better undestanding about its objective, prospects and drawbacks.
