The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized a Country Lecture titled “Beyond Bilateral Ties: Unlocking New Avenues in Bangladesh-Philippines Cooperation” on 31 August 2025 at the BIISS Auditorium in Dhaka. Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, Ambassador of the Philippines to Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address as the Distinguished Guest Speaker. Major General Iftekhar Anis, Director General of BIISS, delivered the welcome remarks, while Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain of the University of Dhaka provided the thematic outline.
Discussions focused on strengthening Bangladesh-Philippines relations through enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, maritime affairs, education, agriculture, and energy. Speakers emphasized shared values and the strategic importance of collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region. The event concluded with an interactive discussion involving diplomats, academics, policymakers, and media representatives.

Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines in Bangladesh, delivered the keynote address as the Distinguished Guest Speaker. Major General Iftekhar Anis, BSP, awc, afwc, psc, PEng, Director General of BIISS, delivered the welcome address, and Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, set the tone of programme. The session was moderated by Ambassador Md Ruhul Alam Siddique, Former Acting Foreign Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, in his deliberations, highlighted the historical relations between Bangladesh and the Philippines and stressed the need to explore new dimensions of cooperation, including trade, investment, people-to-people linkages, and maritime collaboration. He underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic and economic ties in the changing geopolitical context of the Indo-Pacific region.
In her remarks, Ambassador Cainglet emphasised shared values, development priorities, and the potential for greater collaboration in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and education. She highlighted that enhanced bilateral engagement would contribute to regional peace, prosperity, and sustainable growth. The lecture was followed by an open discussion session, where distinguished participants— including senior government officials, diplomats, academics, media representatives, researchers, and students—shared their insights and suggestions on deepening BangladeshPhilippines relations.
