BIISS Research Division conducts strategic studies to address key policy, security, and development challenges, fostering informed strategies and solutions.

RD 1 : Defence Studies Division

Defence Studies Division undertakes research on security and defence-related issues, with a focus on military strategy, force modernisation, defence policy, and civil-military relations, among others. Drawing on the expertise of defence professionals and scholars, the division analyses Bangladesh’s defence needs in the context of evolving regional and global security environments.

RD 2: International Studies Division

International Studies Division undertakes research on global political and economic affairs, foreign policy, and international cooperation. It examines Bangladesh’s bilateral, regional, and multilateral engagements, with emphasis on trade, development, and international cooperation. The division provides analytical insights into international trends affecting Bangladesh’s external relations.

RD 3: Strategic Studies Division

Strategic Studies Division undertakes research on political and strategic dynamics shaping regional and global order. It focuses on power competition, geopolitics, and emerging strategic trends impacting Bangladesh’s security and development, among others. The division contributes to policy debates by assessing long-term strategic interests.

RD 4: Non-Traditional Security Studies Division

Non-Traditional Security Studies Division undertakes research on cross-cutting challenges such as diplomacy, development and maritime cooperation, among others. It examines how these non-traditional security issues affect national resilience and regional cooperation, providing policy-relevant insights for sustainable security.

RD 5: Peace and Conflict Studies Division

Peace and Conflict Studies Division undertakes research on conflict dynamics, peacebuilding, and humanitarian issues at national, regional, and global levels, among others. It explores drivers of conflict, climate change, 5displacement, and reconciliation, while promoting dialogue, preventive diplomacy, and sustainable peacebuilding approaches relevant for Bangladesh and beyond.
