"GO-NGO Cooperation in Preventing Human Trafficking from Bangladesh:Challenges and Way Forward"
This in-house seminar focuses on the critical partnership between governmental organizations (GOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the fight against human trafficking from Bangladesh. Human trafficking is a complex, transnational crime that cannot be effectively addressed by any single entity. A multi-stakeholder approach, built on a foundation of trust and collaboration between government agencies and civil society, is essential. This discussion aims to critically assess the current state of GO-NGO cooperation in Bangladesh across the "4P" paradigm: Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnership. It will identify existing models of successful collaboration, such as joint awareness campaigns, sharing of intelligence, and NGO-run shelters for victims that receive government support.
However, the primary focus will be on the challenges that impede more effective cooperation. These include issues of mistrust between some government agencies and NGOs, lack of a formalized coordination mechanism, bureaucratic hurdles, and inconsistencies in data sharing. The seminar will also explore challenges related to the sustainable funding of NGO activities and the need for capacity building on both sides to better understand each other's roles and operational realities. Looking at the way forward, the session will explore concrete steps to strengthen this vital partnership. Panelists will discuss proposals for creating a unified national platform for GO-NGO coordination, establishing clear protocols for victim referral and support, and launching joint training programs for law enforcement, prosecutors, and social workers. The goal is to produce actionable recommendations that can help build a more seamless, effective, and collaborative national response to prevent human trafficking and protect its victims.
