The Monthly Research Meeting (MRM) at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) is a vital internal academic exercise designed to enhance the quality and relevance of the institute's research output. This forum allows BIISS scholars to present their work-in-progress to an audience of their peers, fostering a culture of critical inquiry and collaborative feedback. The meeting scheduled for 06 March 2025 will feature presentations by two of the institute's researchers: Lam-ya Mostaque and Nur Ahmed. They will discuss the findings and analytical frameworks of their respective research projects, which are expected to cover pressing issues in the fields of international security, foreign policy, or regional development from a Bangladesh perspective.
These MRMs are crucial for the intellectual development of researchers and the institutional goal of producing high-impact, policy-relevant studies. During the session, presenters outline their research questions, methodologies, preliminary data, and tentative conclusions. The subsequent discussion, moderated by a senior faculty member, invites questions, critiques, and suggestions from the attending research staff. This rigorous peer-review process helps to refine arguments, uncover new avenues of inquiry, and ensure that the final research product is robust, well-evidenced, and analytically sound. The topics discussed in MRMs are diverse, reflecting the broad mandate of BIISS, and can range from geopolitical shifts in the Indo-Pacific to challenges of sustainable development and non-traditional security threats. Ultimately, the MRM series serves as the primary engine for quality assurance and intellectual cross-pollination within BIISS, directly contributing to the institute's reputation as a center of excellence in strategic studies.
