The Monthly Research Meeting (MRM) is a cornerstone of the intellectual life at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), providing a dedicated platform for the institute's scholars to present their ongoing research and receive constructive feedback from their peers. This internal forum is essential for maintaining academic rigor, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that BIISS research remains at the forefront of policy-relevant analysis. The meeting on 08 April 2025 will feature presentations from two distinguished researchers: Moutusi Islam and Muhammad Mazedul Haque. Each presenter will have the opportunity to share the preliminary findings, methodologies, and conceptual frameworks of their current projects, covering topics pertinent to Bangladesh's foreign policy, national security, and development trajectory.
Following the presentations, a moderated discussion will ensue, allowing other BIISS researchers, including senior fellows and junior officers, to engage critically with the work. This peer-review process is invaluable, offering the presenters diverse perspectives, identifying potential areas for improvement, and strengthening the overall quality of their research before it is finalized for publication or policy briefing. These sessions often cover a wide spectrum of issues, from regional geopolitics and security dynamics to economic diplomacy and non-traditional security threats like climate change and cybersecurity. The MRM serves not only as a mechanism for quality control but also as a vital tool for capacity building, encouraging a vibrant and dynamic research culture within the institute. The insights generated during these meetings contribute directly to the high-quality, impactful analysis that BIISS provides to national policymakers and the wider strategic community.
