Seminar on "Research Methodology"

The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized a two-day seminar titled “Research Methodology”. The event featured prominent researchers, scholars, and academic experts who gathered to discuss advanced frameworks, essential methodologies, and emerging trends in contemporary academic and strategic research.

Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman, BSP, ndc, psc, Director General, BIISS, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the vital importance of robust research design in building evidence-based policies. The two-day program was structured across multiple interactive sessions. The inaugural session was moderated by Dr. Sufia Khanom, Acting Research Director-5, and included foundational presentations on literature reviews and objective generation by M Ashique Rahman, Senior Research Fellow and Acting Research Director-1, alongside quantitative research tools presented by Dr. Mahfuz Kabir, Research Director-2.

The technical sessions delved deeper into diverse methodology spectrums. Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Research Director-3, moderated discussions regarding qualitative methods presented by Professor Dr. Sadik Hasan from the University of Dhaka, followed by a crucial discourse on the Ethical Use of AI in Research delivered by Dr. Ashfaq Zaman, Chief Strategist of the Dhaka Forum Initiative. The second day, moderated by Dr. Segufta Hossain, Research Director-4, spotlighted macro-research dynamics with a masterclass on conceptual frameworks by Professor Dr. Kazi Maruful Islam, and a focused lecture on international relations research design by Professor Dr. Niloy Ranjan Biswas, both from the University of Dhaka. The comprehensive event drew to a close with strategic remarks and a concluding discussion led by the Director General of BIISS.

The seminar served as an essential collaborative platform for researchers, policy analysts, and academics to refine their analytical tools, align with evolving modern standards, and harness both qualitative and quantitative strategies to address complex national and global research questions.

Objectives of the Seminar

  • To enhance foundational research skills: Focusing on modern strategies for conducting extensive literature reviews and formulating precise research questions and objectives.

  • To master quantitative and qualitative execution: Providing researchers with actionable knowledge regarding advanced tools, sampling, and analytical techniques across distinct empirical paradigms.

  • To address modern technological integration: Examining the parameters, limitations, and ethical guidelines governing the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic writing and data analysis.

  • To contextualize strategic frameworks: Guiding the development of sound theoretical and conceptual structures necessary to ground international relations and development studies fields.

  • To bridge academic excellence and policy research: Fostering academic-level rigor within strategic state research institutions to deliver higher accuracy in national policy implementation blueprints.
