Seminar on Mitigating Economic Fallout of Middle East War in Bangladesh

A seminar titled “Mitigating Economic Fallout of Middle East War in Bangladesh” was organized by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) on 08 April 2026 at the BIISS Auditorium in Dhaka. The seminar examined the potential economic challenges arising from the Middle East conflict and explored policy options to enhance Bangladesh’s economic resilience.

The keynote speaker, Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, highlighted that the conflict had intensified economic pressures through higher global energy prices, inflation, and other macroeconomic vulnerabilities. He emphasized the need for strategic reforms, energy diversification, and stronger economic management to overcome external shocks.

The seminar also featured contributions from experts and policymakers, including Dr Mahfuz Kabir, who discussed the broader implications of geopolitical tensions on Bangladesh’s economy, particularly in terms of energy security, trade, supply chains, and overseas employment. Experts recommended developing strategic energy reserves, diversifying trade markets, increasing renewable energy use, and strengthening domestic resource capacity.

The discussion concluded that Bangladesh must adopt proactive economic strategies to reduce vulnerability to global conflicts and ensure long-term sustainable growth.
