PROCEEDINGS Book Launching Seminar on Development-Human Security Nexus: A Study on Padma Bridge Resettlement Areas

This seminar analyzed the human security dimensions of resettlement linked to the Padma Bridge project. It documented displacement impacts on livelihoods, housing, health, and social cohesion. Presentations showed how infrastructure development, while critical for growth, can create vulnerabilities if resettlement is inadequately planned. Case studies revealed both challenges—loss of farmland, disrupted social networks—and adaptive responses through compensation, new employment, and improved services. The seminar underscored the importance of embedding human security principles into infrastructure projects. It concluded that development cannot be sustainable unless it safeguards dignity, participation, and rights of affected communities.
