Overview

The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized a Country Lecture titled “From Malé to Dhaka: Strengthening Bangladesh–Maldives Bilateral Cooperation” on 10 April 2025 at the BIISS Auditorium. The event featured H.E. Shiuneen Rasheed, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Bangladesh, as the Guest Speaker, with Dr. Neyamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, as the Special Guest.

The discussion highlighted the long-standing friendship between Bangladesh and the Maldives—rooted in mutual respect, cultural affinity, and shared development aspirations. Speakers emphasized key areas of collaboration, including trade, tourism, healthcare, fisheries, and climate resilience. The vital role of Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the Maldivian economy was particularly noted, with both countries urged to strengthen rights-based frameworks for fair and safe migration.

Participants from government agencies, diplomatic missions, academia, and media engaged in a rich exchange of ideas on how to enhance cooperation in labour, maritime economy, education, and sustainable development. The session reaffirmed that Bangladesh and the Maldives are committed to advancing a partnership grounded in regional solidarity, human connectivity, and shared prosperity.
