This regional seminar focused on labor migration from South Asia, examining drivers, benefits, and vulnerabilities. Presentations documented how remittances sustain economies but also how migrants face exploitation, poor working conditions, and inadequate legal protection. Discussions addressed recruitment practices, governance gaps, and the role of bilateral agreements. Special attention was given to the impacts of COVID-19, which exposed migrants to job loss, health risks, and forced returns. The seminar also considered gender dimensions, highlighting the vulnerabilities of female domestic workers. It concluded that migration must be managed not just as labor export but as human development, requiring safeguards, rights, and reintegration support.
