Overview

Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized a webinar on “Leadership of Bangabandhu and Its Relevance to the Contemporary World” on 18 August 2020 on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The webinar will form a part of a book on Bangabandhu that is going to be published from BIISS by 2021 within 'Mujib Barsha'. His Excellency Dr. A K Abdul Momen, MP, Honourable Foreign Minister, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Major General Md Emdad Ul Bari, ndc, psc, te, Director General, BIISS, commenced the programme with his welcome address. Ambassador M Fazlul Karim, Chairman, BIISS, illuminated various leadership qualities of Bangabandhu and gave his key note speech. During the panel discussion, both academics and learned participants shared their valuable experience with regard to charismatic leadership of Bagabandhu. Ambassador Muhammad Zamir, the Former Chief Information Commissioner of Bangladesh, discussed the topic titled “Engagement with International Organizations and Enhancement of Multilateral Relations”. Following that, Professor Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, gave a presentation on “Foreign Policy and Diplomacy” highlighting a historical overview and its linkage with Bangabandhu’s thoughts and ideas. Professor Dr. Selim Jahan, Visiting Fellow, Columbia University and the University of Oxford discussed on “Economy and Development of Bangladesh” stressing on Bangabandhu’s visions, ideals, and thoughts for the current economic progress. Finally, Professor Dr. Syed Anwar Husain, Bangabandhu Chair Professor, Bangladesh University of Professional elaborately discussed the topic on “International Peace and Security” highlighting Bangabandhu’s perceptions and roles in maintaining global peace and tranquility.
