The overview presents policy options. First, mainstream ICZM into national development planning to ensure cross-sectoral coordination. Second, expand community participation and empower local governments. Third, enhance scientific monitoring of coastal changes and integrate findings into decision-making. Fourth, secure financing for resilience infrastructure, such as embankments and cyclone shelters. Fifth, foster regional cooperation with India and Myanmar on shared ecosystems and disaster response. The overview underscores that effective ICZM can transform Bangladesh’s coastal challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth, resilience, and human security.

Abstract
This monograph explores the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) approach in Bangladesh. It discusses the ecological, economic, and social importance of coastal zones, which host millions of people and vital ecosystems. The study evaluates challenges such as salinity intrusion, cyclones, tidal surges, and unplanned development. It reviews policy frameworks, donor-supported projects, and community-based initiatives. The analysis highlights successes in participatory management and setbacks due to institutional fragmentation. It concludes that ICZM remains essential for balancing development and sustainability in Bangladesh’s vulnerable coastal areas.
