The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized a Book Launching Seminar on “Look Africa: Exploring New Horizons for Bangladesh” on 24 February 2025 at its auditorium. The event marked the publication of a comprehensive volume that explores Bangladesh’s growing engagement with Africa—a continent rich in resources, markets, and opportunities for South–South collaboration.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Energy Adviser to the Prime Minister, emphasized that Africa’s emerging economies offer Bangladesh immense potential for trade diversification, energy partnerships, and strategic connectivity. Ambassador Mohammad Shahidul Haque, Chairperson of BIISS, and the book’s editors highlighted that the Look Africa initiative aligns with Bangladesh’s aspiration to expand its diplomatic and economic footprint beyond traditional partners.
Distinguished speakers including diplomats, scholars, and business leaders discussed how Bangladesh can harness Africa’s expanding markets in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, ready-made garments, ICT, and agriculture. They also underscored the need for enhanced air and maritime connectivity, cultural exchanges, and institutional linkages between think tanks and chambers of commerce.
The seminar concluded with a shared vision that Bangladesh’s engagement with Africa—anchored in mutual growth, solidarity, and innovation—can open new horizons for sustainable development and South–South cooperation.
